This Week

Although I was just today able to be apart of this blog, I wanted to say that I have had a great time this week getting to know everyone and learning about all the different lessons we should convey to our new students next year. Whether you were an OL, an FYE Mentor, or a "Career Buddy", it was great to learn that we can all send the same message, and really be there for them and each other. Today's personality test analysis was certainly my favorite part of the week thus far because I got to learn a lot about myself, and it definitely helped me learn a lot about all of you. We all have the power to help one another and I thank you all for making me a part of what some of you had already created. Tomorrow is our last day, and I will miss you all. I hope to see ALL of the pictures taken this week up on Facebook haha. I wish all the OLs good luck with orientation, all the FYE Mentors luck with FYE and the Career Mentors luck with Work Project I. This will not be the end of the road just a start to a new one =]

Something I made/came up with :D

An OL is....

Open minded
Responsible
Irreplaceable
Ecstatic
Neat
Team
Awesome
Tour Guides
Including
One of a kind
Nifty

Loveable
Easy to talk to
Amazing
Diversity
Energetic
Role Models
Students

Let me know what you guys think of this. Hopefully we can use this for something :)
xoxo

Day 2/3/4

Hey guys!

I hope everyone is having as much fun as Alex & I are. Our main goal for this week was to get to know everyone, and create a relationship with everyone and I think we are all definatly doing a good job at doing it!

Thank you to everyone who faced their fears at Camp Louemma yesterday! It was exciting to watch people really put their trust in their team members, some of whom they just met! I give A LOT of credit to those of you who got up to do the trust fall (weither they did it or not), you started facing a huge fear & maybe next year you'll be able to kick it in its arse!

We've been having a REALLY great time with everyone and we hope everyone is enjoying their time with us and the rest of the OL's.

Please remember, we LOVE feedback! Keep letting us know what you like and what you don't about this week and maybe how we can edit the program.

See you in a few!
xoxo,

Casey & Alex

Monday's Reflections

Hey everyone,

The activity we had was very intriguing because we really had to come out of our comfort zones to understand what other people would be feeling. I think we are better prepared to not only assist each other and new students, but other people we will encounter in the future. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did!

Lets have fun on Tuesday!!

Start of Day 2

Morning babies = )

Before we start Day 2, I want to remind every one of student life's and our own expectations. Please keep these in mind throughout the week!

- Be respectful - participate!
- use good listening skills - be on time!
- be open minded and positive - be creative
- use open communications - get to know everyone
- learn good leadership skills - HAVE FUN!
- take a lot of pics = ) - learn how to be a good role model
- break out of your shell - become a TEAM
- build confidence - contribute to the blog!
- learn more about LIM College - leave your dorm door open
- support eachother - be appropriately dressed (always!)

& to add one more thing, as Mr. Agnelli said yesterday, say HELLO. You never know whose day you can change!

See you in a few!

Casey

Day One!!

Hey Y'all!

First off you all looked beautiful yesterday! I am so blessed to work with all you because not many get to work with such a hilarious, intelligent, and open minded group.

I am glad you all liked the candy ice breaker Casey and I did. When you learn ice breakers you think you will want to do in your down times and you need supplies please let Case or myself know. :)

The OL handbook is an amazing resource (especially for survival guides!) Thank you T!

I hope you all remember your thumper calling cards!!!!

I feel so close to all of you after J.Agnelli's session. We all shared and participated and let our voices be heard. I am SO proud of us because that was hard stuff to talk about. One thing I learned was that we are all different, but we have shared experiences. I hope all of you are keeping his email for future questions/comments/concerns.

Last night was fun watching Secret Life and Pretty Little Liars with you guys! If you weren't there I went around knocking on doors, but not everyone was there. For future notice just come upstairs to our room :)

Please watch this video so you can better understand the theme for this year's Orientation. Logo meeting tonight after dinner @ 1760!

MONDAY FUNDAY

Hey everyone,

I think we can all agree that we had a great start to the OLT (or whatever you are) week! First, I am so glad to be back in the LIM environment, seeing Teloki, Yoli, Charlay returning OLs and new faces. Just to go over the entire day for me; I felt SCANDALOUS (hah, Christina Romano) and ready so I did cardio and showed up for our first session. I thought that candy ice breaker was  hilarious, and I know who my "foodies" are. =] We can hang out all the time, call me when you're hungry. Ummmmm let see.. Lunch was great, thanks for the vegetarian options! Secondly, hands down, Agnelli was, yet again, so inspiring and I am glad everyone of us new and old leaders have finally got to meet and hear him speak. That session was the perfect way to start the week to kind of set the "playing field" to a fair or equal level playing field. Also, I think that this week we all will find that we are going to be taken out of our comfort zones whether it be public speaking or working in your groups with someone you're just getting to know, but we're all in this together OL, FYE or buddy, we all have a common goal (I Hope) in this experience, so don't ever be afraid to let go, let it out. Returning OL's from this past year can agree that, we are all such great friends now after a week of training, that I could go to either of them now and probably in the future, if i ever needed anythinggg! .

Lets keep up the enthusiasm and fun going alll weeek. WOOHOO.

I am especially excited for the dirtay jerz trip wednesday.

okay, I am EXHAUSTED. clearly its late, just got my laptop working wahoo.

TTFN. <3

WOW!

I couldn't have asked for a better first speaker. He was amazing to listen to and I could relate to what he was saying on every note. It made me realize things in my life need to change and there are people around me going through some of the same problems I am. It was just inspirational and I can't wait to go read some of the book he was talking about. Like I said earlier behind the make up, gel and clothes there is a path some of us have never walked down. We all took different paths to get here but some how we all seemed to stand on the same side walk.

Day One

I was also a little nervous coming in to today's session since I did not sleep in the dorms last night. I feel like what I got was entirely unexpected! The speaker was amazing, and I appreciated his brutal honesty in the manner he addressed each issue. I absolutely loved meeting everybody today, and I definitely met some awesome people I otherwise would have never known. Already I can see that there was no need to be nervous-I'm really looking forward to the rest of this week.

Day 1

Hey everyone!

Just want to say I had a blast today! I hope everyone got a lot out of our first days sessions! I found Mr. Agnelli's session the most fun, informative, and interactive. He really had us all step out of our comfort zones and bring ourselves to a new level around people we barely know, and I defiantly think that brought us closer.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow and the rest of the week! We have to get out of our sleepy funks (some of us, i.e. ME) and start hangin' at night. A few girls came up to mine and Al's rooms and we watched The Secret Life (amazing) and an old episode of Pretty Little Liars (amazing).

I will be posting the exceptions and guidelines that we discussed tomorrow!

On a closing note, I would like to leave everyone with my favorite part of Mr. Agnelli's presentation today:

If my Insides were my Outsides

Enjoy the week

Unfortunately, I won't be there this week for training but I heard from the last year's orientation leaders that it's amazing. Enjoy every minute of it and soak up as much information as possible. See you in August!
Today was an awesome way start off our week! It was great getting to meet and know everyone with the first ice breaker! The speaker today was awesome and really opened my eyes to things i never really thought about. I cant wait for the rest of the week!
I was pretty stressed coming today because I arrived a day late and was afraid I missed something but today went really well. The speaker did a great job engaging us and getting us to think outside how we normally would. Everyone has been very friendly and seems eager to get to know one another. I look forward to the next few days and continuing to learn and grow.
I had a great first day of training with everyone! It was nice to get to know everyone better especially since this is my first year being an OL. Having better relationships with the people around us will definitely benefit in aiding the new students when they arrive. Besides all the good food we ate, the speaker from NYIT was amazing. I think it was informative and beneficial because it enabled us to move out of our comfort zone. I'm looking forward to another great day tomorrow, Thanks everyone!!

What to wear next Wednesday

What should I wear? What should I bring?

General recommendation is to wear comfortable, slightly loose-fitting clothing that enables you to move freely. Initiative Games are conducted in a grassy field. The Team Building activities are located in the woods and accessed by a short hike on maintained trails.

‘DO’s’

• Sturdy sneakers or hiking shoes ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED. NO OPEN TOE SHOES (P.S. Wear socks also!)
• Long pants (Khakis or jeans if cool, shorts if hot.
• t-shirt or long sleeve shirt.
• Fleece pullover, sweatshirt, or light jacket. Layers are always a good idea. Temperatures can fluctuate quickly, so be prepared. Even on a warm day it can get cool in the woods!
• If it looks like rain, bring raincoat or Gore-Tex jacket.
• bug repellent
• Water Bottle
• Sunscreen
• Bring a camera to get great pictures of you and your Team Mates!

‘DON’TS’

• NO Flip-flops, sandals, slippers, boots or shoes with heels. For safety reasons, people wearing inappropriate footwear will not be allowed to participate in the Ropes Program.
• If you have long hair, bring something to tie it back with.
• Don’t wear dangling earrings, loose bracelets, watches, long necklaces. Leave your favorite jewelry at home, please.
• Try not to wear cotton clothing if the weather looks rainy, because it gets wet, it does not dry quickly, and you will get cold.
• NO cell phones, iPods, hand-held games, etc are permitted on the course. You wont need them, and there is a good chance that the devices could get dropped, damaged or lost during the program.
• No gum or candy permitted while engaging in the program, sorry!

The one thing that we can promise you, (besides having a great time) is that you will probably get dirty, so don’t wear your best or favorite clothing.

We look forward to your visit!

Ice Breakers Continued

That post was really informative Casey!

What is YOUR favorite ice breaker? If you learn one during the week tell us why it's your new favorite!

Ice Breakers!

I'm sure you've all done a thousand ice breakers since you've started LIM. For orientation we like to do a lot of ice breakers for the students to get to know eachother as well as you with them and vice versa. I did a little research and I put together some of the best ice breakers I could find. Start thinking of some good ones that you can do with your group!

Marooned:
This ice breaker is a great introduction when people don’t know each other, and it fosters team building in groups that already work together. I have always found people’s answers to be very revealing about who they are as a person.

Instructions
Give people a minute or two to think about this question: If you were marooned on a deserted island, which three people would you want with you? They can be dead, alive, or imaginary. Ask participants to introduce themselves and share their choices with the group. Start with yourself so they have an example.

Example: Hi, my name is Deb. If I were marooned on a deserted island, I would want Tim with me because he’s smart, strong, and fun, and I love him. He would know how to make a shelter and find food, and we’d have wonderful conversations. My second choice would be someone who tells great stories, like Garrison Keillor or Eoin Colfer. And my third would be Solomon Burke, the blues singer, so we’d have soulful music.

Expectations:
Expectations are powerful, especially when you're teaching adults. Understanding your students' expectations of the course you're teaching is key to your success. Make sure you know what your students expect with this expectations ice breaker.

Instructions:
· Introduce themselves
· Share their expectations of the college/semester

Example: Hi, my name is Deb, and I’m expecting to learn how to handle difficult or challenging people.

Different Path:
Almost everyone has wished at some point that they had taken a different path in life. We get started in one direction, and before long, there's no turning back. Sometimes this isn't that big of a deal, but what a tragedy it is when a life so full of promise gets off track and derails. It can seem like there's no way to change direction. Wouldn't it be wonderful if simply stating the desire for a new path could inspire it to action? Can't hurt to try. Find out if your students are in your classroom to find a new direction.

Instructions
Ask each participant to share their name, a little about the path they chose to take in life, and which path they would choose today if they could do it all over, knowing what they know today. Ask them to add how the different path is related to why they are sitting in your classroom.

Example
Hi, my name is Deb. I have been a training manager, performance consultant, editor, and writer. If I could start over and take another path, I would study creative writing more and start my publishing career much earlier. I’m here today because I’d like to include more history in my writing.

Candy Confessions:
Choose four candies from the bowl without looking. In a moment, a key code will be revealed, indicating which truths you should tell. Once the code has been revealed you may begin your confession.

Materials Needed
Basket of Candy
Key Code (e.g. Kit Kats = Favorite Movie, Favorite Magazine, Favorite Song, or Favorite Book, Krackle = Favorite Vacation Spot, Place You Would Like To Visit, Place You Would Least Like To Visit, or Worst Vacation, Lollipop =Number of Years in Current Position, Where You Work, What You Do, or Brief Description of First Job, Gum Drops = Something About Where You Live, Something About Where You Grew Up, Something About Your Family, Something About Your Town/City, Kisses = Wildcard [tell us anything])

Different Version:
o Use a ball of string. Allow each person to take as much as they like. For each inch, they must reveal something about themselves. (Additional material: string, scissors, and ruler)

Facebook!

I just wanted to let you know I'm not creepin' on anyone on facebook! lol i just want to add everyone because I made an Orientation event on facebook that I would appreciate if everyone would join it. I posted the link below. PLEASE invite any new students you know that will be attending LIM!

Thanks = )

Pictures for orientation leaders

Hey OL's!

Just to give you a heads up, you will be writing a bio that will be distributed to your group so they get to know you a little bit (more will be explained next week). As some of you my remember Alex took everyone’s photo so we could have uniform pictures on our bios and because it was easy to use with publisher. Thursday night, the night of our dinner at Delizia restaurant, we will have someone taking your pictures for the bios.

Also, I have updated the schedule a little bit in case you want to take a look = )
